Best Management Practices (BMPs)
Current TRPA regulations require all homeowners in the Tahoe Basin to retrofit and maintain their properties with Best Management Practices, or BMPs. The deadline to install BMPs in Tahoma was October 15, 2006.

At the annual General Meeting in August 2006, our speaker was Eben Swain from the Tahoe Resouce Conservation District, which is helping property owners with the BMP process. He assured us that the TRPA wants compliance much more than fines, and if you are taking steps towards completing your BMPs, it would be at least several years before TRPA starts assessing any penalties. For example, the area around Meek's Bay had the first BMP deadline and was required to comply by October 2000. They have not been assessed any penalties yet.
If you are just getting started with the BMP process, we have several resources available for you:NEW! The Tahoe Resource Conversation District website now offers a Self-Evaluation BMP guide to get everyone started who is waiting for their callback and site evaluation.
